Our Ultimate Route of Overlanding to the Overland Expo West

In early spring we decided to go on a multi-day expedition and here is our ultimate route of Overlanding to the Overland Expo West! The Overland Expo West event is near Flagstaff, Arizona every year. This is a trade show that all types of overlanding rigs, overlanding equipment and accessories, and camping equipment to fit one’s every overlanding need! The event includes specialized training, speakers with stories of their travels and vendors with all types of overlanding equipment. We purchased our event tickets in advance and started our journey to Flagstaff, Arizona.

Our Ultimate Route

We left on a Wednesday night and our first stop was at Lark Canyon Campground in the McCain Valley Off-Highway Recreation Vehicle (ORV) Area. We drove 12-miles on a dirt road to get to our stop for the night. The campground had a picnic table, fire ring, and vault toilets available. There was no water available. It was incredibly windy, and we set up our tent among large boulders at the campsite. We were the only ones there at night, and the next morning we saw another truck and tent in a nearby campsite.

The next morning, we left the campground and started our journey to Flagstaff, Arizona. One of our first scenic views was the Imperial Dunes in California. We stopped at the dunes just long enough to take a few photos, and then continued our drive.

We drove near the California-Arizona border and drove on some scenic dirt roads along the Colorado River. We even crossed the river on an old wooden bridge. We stopped for a picnic along the river and went on. After driving through Jerome, Arizona, we finally ended up at our camping spot for the next three nights at Fort Tuthill Campground outside of Flagstaff, Arizona.

We took our leisure time getting to the Overland Expo West and along the way got to drive several miles on scenic dirt roads, exploring areas along the route. To me, that is what overlanding is all about!
