Parque del Amor: the Most Romantic Spot in Lima
Parque del Amor

Today is my last day in Peru, and I will take a stroll through the Parque del Amor: the Most Romantic Spot in Lima, Peru before I leave! After visiting the Parque del Amor, I will make my way to the Puente de los Suspiros (Bridge of Sighs) and check out the Arts of Barranco.

                Let’s Go!

Parque del Amor (Love Park)

If you are looking for a romantic place to visit in Lima, Peru, you might want to check out the Parque del Amor, or Love Park. This park is located on the cliffs of Miraflores, a district known for its modern and cosmopolitan vibe. The park offers a stunning view of the Pacific Ocean and the Lima coastline, where you can see surfers riding the waves and paragliders soaring in the sky.

The Parque del Amor was inaugurated on Valentine’s Day in 1993, as a tribute to love in all its forms. The park features a large sculpture of a kissing couple, called El Beso, or The Kiss. The sculpture was created by Peruvian artist Victor Delfín, who also designed the park. El Beso is one of the most iconic landmarks in Lima, and a popular spot for couples to take photos and express their affection.

The park also has colorful mosaics with poetic quotes from various Peruvian poets, such as César Vallejo, Blanca Varela, and Sebastián Salazar Bondy. The mosaics cover the walls and benches of the park, creating a vibrant and artistic atmosphere. The quotes reflect different aspects of love, such as passion, longing, joy, and pain.

The park is surrounded by flowerbeds that add beauty and fragrance to the place. The flowers vary according to the season, but you can always find roses, geraniums, and bougainvilleas. The park also has palm trees and other plants that provide shade and freshness.

The Parque del Amor is a must-see for anyone who loves romance and art. It is especially crowded on February 14, when a kissing contest is held among the couples who visit the park. The contest rewards the longest kiss of the day with prizes and applause. The park is also a favorite destination for newlyweds, who come to celebrate their marriage with a kiss in front of El Beso.

The Parque del Amor is open 24 hours a day, and admission is free. It is located along the Malecón de la Reserva, a promenade that runs along the coast of Miraflores. You can easily reach the park by walking from other attractions in Miraflores, such as Larcomar shopping center or Parque Kennedy. You can also take a bus or a taxi to get there.

The Parque del Amor is more than just a park. It is a symbol of love and culture in Lima, and a place where you can enjoy the beauty of nature and art with your partner.

Puente de los Suspiros (Bridge of Sighs) & Barranco Arts District

The Puente de los Suspiros is a wooden bridge that crosses over a cobbled path in the Barranco district of Lima, Peru. It is a popular attraction for tourists and locals alike, who come to enjoy its romantic atmosphere and scenic views of the ocean.

The bridge was built in 1876 and inaugurated on Valentine’s Day. It was named after the legend of a young woman who fell in love with a street cleaner, but was forbidden by her father to see him. She spent her days sighing at the bridge, hoping to catch a glimpse of her lover.

The bridge has also inspired many artists, such as the composer Chabuca Granda, who wrote a famous waltz about it, and the poet Cesar Calvo, who claimed to be the muse of Granda’s song. The bridge has a statue and a park dedicated to Granda, who is considered one of Peru’s cultural icons.

The Puente de los Suspiros is located in the heart of Barranco, a Bohemian neighborhood that is home to many writers, musicians and artists. Barranco has a vibrant nightlife, with many bars, restaurants and galleries. It also has several beaches nearby, such as Playa Barranco and Playa las Cascadas.

The Puente de los Suspiros is a must-see for anyone who visits Lima. It is a place where history, culture and romance come together in a beautiful setting.

Farewell, Peru!

I am leaving Peru tonight, after spending three weeks in Cusco, and the last week here in Lima. What.An.Incredible.Trip! Three weeks of private Spanish lessons, two tours with English and Spanish guides, even more tours with Spanish-only speaking guides to Inca Archeological Sites and Museums, a horseback ride, bathing in natural hot springs, riding in the high elevations of the Andes Mountains, a hike and view of the Seven Waterfalls, Live Music, many late nights at the local Irish bar, and much, much more! Hopefully I can return soon! (¡Ojalá puedo volver pronto!)
